At the Executive Meeting of the Bahamas Olympic Association last evening, Sir Durward Knowles, Vice-President and the first Bahamian Olympic Gold Medallist, was chosen to assume the duties of the President of the Bahamas Olympic Association until such time as a duly elected President undertakes these duties.
The Executive Officers responded to the need to have a functioning organization to serve the needs of the Bahamian Athletes and the expectations and hopes of the sporting bodies and the Bahamian People; and especially to properly prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In light of the fact that Sir Arlington Butler has declared that he is no longer President of the BOA and no longer carries out the duties of the office, Sir Durward Knowles was voted in under Article X (c ) of the BOA Constitution which states that “ In the event the President is unwilling or unable to execute his duties, the executive officers shall choose one of the Vice Presidents to assume such duties.” |
