Background
The Caribbean Coaching Certification (CCCP) is a competency-based programme designed and developed for and by Caribbean coaches. It is fully supported by AFNA, CNA, CFU and CANOC. Originally the CCCP was an initiative of the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada (CGAC) through their Commonwealth Sports Development Programme (CSDP) and was cosponsored by UK Sports. However, full ownership of the programme now belongs to CANOC.

Its main objective is to improve the competency level of all coaches, in all sporting disciplines throughout the Caribbean. It is geared toward a five tiered programme which starts with the Community Sport Leader Course (CSLC) and the Coach Theory Course (CTC) then moves on to the Level I, II and III in the sport specifics.

The CCCP can be considered as the “flagship” initiative of CSDP and OCASPE in the region. With assistance from CGAC, the Coaching Association of Canada, the National Coaching Foundation of the UK, and UK Sports, the initial emphasis was on developing the Coach Theory Course (CTC). This is now in full operation and is available to all CANOC member countries which express an interest.

So far, a number of coaches in the region have satisfied the respective competency requirements to complete this level of the programme. Towards completing the initial plan of ensuring that all government employed coaches in the region be certified at the CTC level has not yet been satisfied.

The Caribbean Football Union and the Caribbean Netball Association have taken advantage of the initiative, and have used the competency-based format to develop their Level I sports specifics manuals. Practicing coaches in those disciplines, who satisfy the requirements of the CTC, will be well prepared to move on to the next level.
