Message from President Brian Lewis in celebration of CANOC Day 2020

Celebrating CANOC Day 2020
Message from President G. Trevor Bailey, SVG Olympic Committee
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC) extends sincere congratulations to the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) on the occasion of its 17th anniversary on Friday 31 July 2020.
It has been an arduous journey to get to this point but it has been well worth it. The idea of fostering an organisation of National Olympic Committees of the Caribbean to facilitate any chance of regional unity and common sense of purpose, must be seen as creative and forward looking.
That CANOC at 17 is still well short of the mark of engendering the kind of unity of purpose originally intended, has not deterred the resolve to meet this objective. We share the vision and remain committed to its successful attainment in collaboration with our Caribbean counterparts. The peoples of the Caribbean are most deserving of our efforts.
The SVGOC commends the founders of CANOC, especially Steve Stoute, for their vision and indefatigable efforts at building and sustaining the organisation. Whilst we have different cultures, not the least of which is language, we nonetheless envision a future that allows the peoples of the Caribbean to be held in high esteem on and off the sporting arena. WE will be respected for our capacity to use sport to bring us closer together, to respect each other and use our differences to our collective advantage in a rapidly changing global environment.
Salutations to the current executive.
Best wishes to all of us who comprise CANOC.
Indeed, we are CANOC!
